Klaus Official Status Klaus is officially qualified dance teacher and member of the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing), Club Dance Division which is recognised by the World Dance & Dancesport Council & the Central Council for Physical Recreation. Dance Background Klaus comes from a dancing family. His mother was a European champion in Latin ballroom dancing but he himself did not start out as a dancer. It was only in 1994 that he discovered dance forms which were fun to watch and which neither required a partner nor a large floor for practising. He joined a "funky jazz dance" class
despite being the only male there but it was worth it. In a few months
he had found his dancing feet and soon moved on to African Dance, Hip
Hop, Break-dance and later in Cambridge: Argentine Tango.
In 1996 Klaus moved to Cambridge (UK)
where he encountered Salsa. He soon fell in love with the vivid music
and the exciting dance that allows more freedom of movement to music
than any other partner dance he had seen before. Three years later,
after many Salsa classes/workshops and dance nights in London and abroad,
he began teaching Salsa - first as private lessons, then workshops,
and more recently as regular classes.
His dance-style, technique and teaching
methods are strongly influenced by various UK and overseas Salsa champions
like Susana Montero, Sai & Deanne, Edie Lewis, Joseph Konjak, Leon Rose
as well as excellent London based teachers like Robert Charlemagne.
He is covering the whole spectrum from Cuban and Puerto Rican to Los
Angeles and New York Style Salsa.
As a result Klaus can teach Salsa as
it is danced in London and most other cities and countries worldwide.
The SalsaPassion
teaching method
From his own experience, he knows how
to overcome many barriers that non-native dancers have. He has the ability
to break down dance moves into both the leader and follower steps so
that beginners as well as more experienced dancers can learn quickly
without suffering from overload.
In his classes he explains the correct
technique and timing that may not come naturally to people who did not
grow up with Salsa music. His teaching method is aimed to teach students
the few key elements and rules of Salsa so that their progress is very
fast. As a result, his students can soon move up to the more advanced
class where they learn how to perform more complex move/turn patterns
using the basic building blocks already learned. In this class, they
also acquire musical interpretation, style and technical tricks.
Last but not least Klaus wants to acknowledge
his assistants Fiona and Abid
for their continuous support - as well as his students for their precious
feedback and the excellent and fun atmosphere in our classes. |
"I just put my feet in the ground and move them around."
- Fred Astaire "Technique - bodily control - must be mastered only because the body must not stand in the way of the soul's expression."
